間（ま）とは、音と音のあいだにある余白のこと。日本では古来、その何もない時間こそが意味を生むとされてきました。間 MA が届けるのは道具ではなく、一日にひとつ、静かな線を引くための五分間です。 MA (間) is the interval — the silence between two notes, the emptiness between two strokes. In Japan it has always been understood that meaning lives inside that space. What MA delivers is not an object. It is five minutes, and one quiet line.

動画は倍速で見て、音楽は曲の途中で飛ばして、寝る前の三十分はスクロールに溶けていく。何もしていないのに、いつも急いでいる感覚がありました。 I watched everything at double speed. I skipped songs halfway through. Thirty minutes before sleep dissolved into scrolling. I was doing nothing, and still felt rushed.
ある日、実家で古い硯を見つけました。子どもの頃に習っていた書道の道具です。久しぶりに墨をすってみると、それだけで三分かかりました。何も生まれない三分間。けれど終わったとき、頭の中が、驚くほど静かでした。 Then I found an old inkstone at my parents’ house — from calligraphy lessons I took as a child. I ground the ink again for the first time in years. It took three full minutes. Three minutes that produced nothing at all. And when I finished, my head was quieter than it had been in a very long time.

間 MA は、その五分間をそのまま誰かに渡すために作りました。習慣にしなくていい。上手くならなくていい。ただ、今日ひとつ線を引くための道具です。 MA exists to hand those five minutes to someone else, intact. You don’t have to make it a habit. You don’t have to get good at it. These are simply the tools for drawing one line, today.

書道には、生産性がありません。一枚に一度きり、やり直しのきかない線を引く。消しゴムも、取り消しもない。その不自由さこそが、意識を今この瞬間へ引き戻します。 Calligraphy resists productivity. One sheet, one stroke, no second attempt. No eraser. No undo. That constraint is exactly what pulls attention back into the present moment.
脳が本当に休まるのは、情報が止まったときではなく、ひとつのことに注意が向いているときだと言われます。間 MA が売っているのは、集中のための最小の装置です。 The mind does not rest when information stops. It rests when attention has exactly one place to go. What MA sells is the smallest possible device for that.

覚えることも、続ける約束もありません。箱を開けたその日から、今日の一回のために全部が用意されています。 Nothing to memorise. No commitment to keep. From the day the box opens, everything is prepared for one occasion: today.
整えるPrepare
風呂敷をほどき、紙を広げ、墨をする。道具を並べるこの数分が、すでに儀式の半分です。手を動かしているうちに、呼吸が下りてきます。 Untie the cloth. Lay the paper flat. Grind the ink. These few minutes of arranging are already half the practice — by the time your hands are done, your breathing has dropped.
書くWrite
一文字だけ。息を吐きながら、止め、払い、はね。日本語が読めなくても構いません。同封の手引きに、線の順番と意味が図で示してあります。 One character. Exhale through the stroke — the stop, the sweep, the flick. You do not need to read Japanese; the enclosed guide shows every stroke in order, with what it means.
掛けるDisplay
書いた一枚を、白紙の掛軸に納めて壁へ。飾られるのは名筆ではありません。あなたが五分間、静かでいられたという記録です。 Mount the sheet on the blank hanging scroll, and hang it. What goes on the wall is not a masterpiece. It is a record that you were still for five minutes.

入門セットにありがちな「とりあえず全部」は避けました。五分間を成立させるために必要なものだけを、産地と作り手を明記して納めています。 We avoided the beginner-kit habit of including everything just in case. Only what the five minutes actually require — each piece named at source.
筆The brush
奈良・広島の筆匠による一本。初めての手でも線が安定する穂の長さを選んでいます。 From long-established makers in Nara and Hiroshima. Tip length chosen so the line stays steady in a first-time hand.
紙、または稽古布Paper, or practice cloth
スタンダードは水で書き、乾けば消える稽古布。プレミアムは墨と和紙。 Standard: a cloth you write on with water, which fades as it dries. Premium: real ink on washi.

和歌・俳句・武士道の古典から選んだ言葉。今日どれを書くか、引いて決めます。 Words drawn from classical waka, haiku and bushidō texts. Pull one to decide what today’s character will be.

包みは捨てる梱包ではなく、道具の住処です。使い終えたらまた包んで仕舞います。 The wrapping is not packaging to discard. It is where the tools live — wrap them again when you are done.

金継ぎは割れを隠しません。継ぎ目を金でなぞり、壊れた歴史ごと器を美しくします。書も同じです。かすれた払い、揺れた縦線は、その日のあなたの状態がそのまま出たもの。うまく書けなかった一枚こそ、いちばん正直な記録です。 Kintsugi does not hide the fracture. It traces the seam in gold so the object carries its history in the open. Calligraphy behaves the same way. The dry sweep, the wavering vertical — that is the state you were in, written down. The sheet you would throw away is the most honest one you made.

包みを解く時間から始まるので、贈った瞬間から体験が起きます。手引きは日英併記。日本語が読めない相手にもそのまま渡せます。 The experience starts at the knot, so it begins the moment they receive it. The guide is bilingual — it can be given to someone who reads no Japanese at all.

間 MA はメーカーではありません。何百年も筆と硯を作り続けてきた日本の作り手と組み、彼らの道具を、彼らの名前のまま届けています。 MA is not a manufacturer. We work with Japanese makers who have been producing brushes and inkstones for centuries, and deliver their tools under their own names.

むしろ、その方のための道具です。間 MA は書を上達させるためのものではなく、五分間だけ注意を一点に置くための装置です。震えた線も、かすれた払いも、その日のあなたがそのまま出たもので、直す対象ではありません。上手さを評価する仕組みは、この箱の中にひとつも入っていません。 This is built for exactly that person. MA is not a course in calligraphy; it is a device for placing your attention in one spot for five minutes. A wavering line or a dry sweep is simply the state you were in, written down — not something to correct. There is nothing in this box that measures how good you are.
日本語が読めません。漢字も分かりません。I can’t read Japanese or recognise kanji.
問題ありません。同封の手引きは日英併記で、一画ずつの順番と方向が図で示してあります。言葉の札には、読み・意味・出典を英語でも記載しています。実際、書道を始める日本人の多くも、意味を知らないまま形をなぞるところから入ります。 Not a problem. The enclosed guide is fully bilingual and shows each stroke’s order and direction as a diagram. Every word card carries its reading, meaning and source in English. In practice, many Japanese beginners also start by tracing a shape before they understand it.
続けられる自信がありません。I don’t think I’ll keep it up.
続けなくて構いません。間 MA は習慣化の道具ではないので、記録も、通知も、連続日数もありません。三ヶ月後に思い出して一度開けたなら、それで役目を果たしています。棚に置いておけること自体が、この箱の設計です。 Then don’t. MA is not a habit product — there is no tracker, no notification, no streak to break. If you remember it three months from now and open it once, it has done its job. Sitting quietly on a shelf is part of the design.

片付けの手間をかけたくない、まず試したいという方はスタンダードを。墨をする三分間そのものに惹かれた方、書いた一枚を残して飾りたい方、贈り物としてお探しの方はプレミアムをお選びください。届く五分間の質は、どちらも変わりません。 If you want no cleanup, or you simply want to try: Standard. If the three minutes of grinding ink is the part that appeals to you, if you want to keep and hang what you write, or if this is a gift: Premium. The quality of the five minutes is identical either way.
海外への配送と関税はどうなりますか。How does international shipping and customs work?
東京から DHL / FedEx の DDP（関税・輸入税元払い）で発送します。サイトに表示されている価格に関税が含まれているため、受け取り時に追加でお支払いいただくものはありません。追跡番号は発送時にお送りします。 We ship from Tokyo via DHL / FedEx on DDP terms, meaning duties and import taxes are prepaid. The price shown on this site is the price you pay — nothing is collected on delivery. A tracking number is sent at dispatch.
子どもと一緒に使えますか。Can I use this with children?
スタンダードは特に向いています。水で書くので墨の汚れがなく、乾けば何度でも書き直せます。プレミアムは本物の墨を使うため、机や衣類に付くと落ちにくい点にご留意ください。 Standard is well suited to it — water leaves no stain and the cloth resets as it dries. Premium uses real ink, which is difficult to remove from tables and clothing, so keep that in mind.
