間 (ma) is the pause between brushstrokes — the space that gives the mark its meaning.
Some of the people who love Japan most have never been able to visit it, or can't visit as often as they'd like. A parent overseas. A partner who fell for the country on a single trip a decade ago. A friend who studies the language alone, at night, after work. MA exists for the distance in between — the miles, and the years since the last visit.
Each kit is built from materials sourced directly from the regions that have made them for centuries: brushes from Kumano, ink and inkstones carrying Nara's papermaking history, paper cut and packed by hand. Nothing is substituted for a cheaper equivalent. If we can't source it authentically, it doesn't go in the box.
