\nStep 2: Meet Japan’s Security Requirements<\/h2>\n
If you’re based in Japan, Stripe requires you to complete a security checklist from Japan’s Credit Transaction Security Council. Skip this and your account will be flagged as “Multiple capabilities paused” \u2014 meaning you can’t accept payments.<\/p>\n
The good news: two free WordPress plugins handle almost everything on the list.<\/p>\n

Install both plugins from Plugins \u2192 Add New<\/strong> in your WordPress dashboard:<\/p>\n\n- All-In-One Security (AIOS)<\/strong> \u2014 handles firewall, login attempt limits, and vulnerability scanning<\/li>\n
- WPS Hide Login<\/strong> \u2014 changes your \/wp-admin URL to restrict unauthorized access<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Once installed, you can answer “Yes” to the admin restriction, two-factor authentication, vulnerability testing, firewall, and malware protection questions. Stripe handles card testing prevention automatically, so you can check “Yes” on that one too.<\/p>\n
If you don’t use WordPress, you’ll need to handle these requirements at the server level instead.<\/p>\n
\nStep 3: Verify Your Identity and Add a Bank Account<\/h2>\n
Stripe requires identity verification before you can receive payouts.<\/p>\n
What you’ll need:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- My Number Card (\u30de\u30a4\u30ca\u30f3\u30d0\u30fc\u30ab\u30fc\u30c9) or Driver’s License<\/li>\n
- A Japanese bank account<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
A few tips:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Enter your account holder name in katakana \u2014 it must match your bank passbook exactly<\/li>\n
- Review typically takes a few hours to one business day<\/li>\n
- While under review, you’ll see “Information in review” \u2014 this is normal, no action needed<\/li>\n
- For Payout schedule, choose Manual<\/strong> \u2014 this lets you initiate transfers on your own timing rather than having them go out automatically<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
\nStep 4: Create Your Product<\/h2>\n
Go to Product catalog \u2192 Create product<\/strong> in the Stripe dashboard.<\/p>\nThe key decision here is which pricing type to use:<\/p>\n

Fill in the following for each product:<\/p>\n
\n- Name<\/strong> \u2014 visible to your customers at checkout<\/li>\n
- Description<\/strong> \u2014 shown on the checkout page and in invoices<\/li>\n
- Image<\/strong> \u2014 a product photo under 512KB (JPEG or PNG)<\/li>\n
- Price<\/strong> \u2014 amount and currency (JPY)<\/li>\n
- Type<\/strong> \u2014 One-off or Recurring<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Start with one product. You can always add more later \u2014 but launching with one clean offering is better than launching nothing while you perfect ten.<\/p>\n
\nStep 5: Generate a Payment Link<\/h2>\n
Once your product is created, open it and click \u22ef \u2192 Create payment link<\/strong>.<\/p>\nRecommended options to enable:<\/p>\n
\n- \u2705 Collect customer names<\/strong><\/li>\n
- \u2705 Require phone number<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Click Create link<\/strong>. You’ll get a URL that looks like this:<\/p>\nhttps:\/\/buy.stripe.com\/xxxxxxxxxxxx<\/code><\/pre>\nThat’s your payment link. Copy it. That URL is now a fully functional checkout page \u2014 no website required to start using it.<\/p>\n
\nStep 6: Add the Link to Your Service Page<\/h2>\n
If you have a website, replace your email or contact link with the Stripe URL:<\/p>\n

The whole flow \u2014 from “Book Now” click to payment confirmation email \u2014 happens automatically. You don’t need to do anything manually except show up for the session.<\/p>\n
\nFees, Tax, and Things to Know<\/h2>\n\n- Transaction fee<\/strong>: 3.6% for domestic Japanese cards (deducted automatically)<\/li>\n
- First payout<\/strong>: usually 7\u201314 days after your first successful payment<\/li>\n
- Consumption tax<\/strong>: if your annual revenue is under \u00a510M, you’re a tax-exempt business \u2014 no need to collect or pay consumption tax<\/li>\n
- Income tax<\/strong>: if your side income exceeds \u00a5200,000\/year, you’ll need to file a tax return<\/li>\n
- Refund policy<\/strong>: always state this clearly on your service page before someone pays<\/li>\n
- Tokusho-ho (\u7279\u5b9a\u5546\u53d6\u5f15\u6cd5)<\/strong>: selling services online in Japan may require a legal disclosure page \u2014 check whether this applies to you<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
