Yesterday, we celebrated my mom\u2019s 60th birthday in a traditional Japanese way called Kanreki (\u9084\u66a6)<\/strong> \ud83c\udf8c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kanreki literally means \u201creturning to the calendar cycle.\u201d In the traditional zodiac system, the cycle lasts 60 years, so turning 60 symbolizes being reborn<\/strong> and starting a new chapter of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s not just about age\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most iconic parts of Kanreki is wearing a red vest called a chanchanko<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
